Birth and death are the two thresholds of human life.
We celebrate birth with intention, care, and community.
Yet at the end of life, far too many people cross the final threshold in isolation—often in sterile, institutional settings that neither reflect their wishes nor honor their humanity.
Few would choose a clinical institution over a supportive, home-like environment for their final days. Yet, death in hospitals and nursing homes remains the norm.
The disconnect stems not from a lack of desire for dignified care, but from a total absence of alternative choices.
Threshold House is a compassionate, community-based initiative that intends to provide a safe, home-like setting for individuals nearing the end of life who cannot die at home, regardless of their ability to pay.
Visit our 'About' page to read more about our story, intentions, and our team.
At Threshold House, guests will receive 24/7 compassionate presence and non-medical support while hospice providers deliver medical care.
This support will be offered to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay. Serving the greater Philadelphia area, our home will offer up to three guests at a time a peaceful, supportive and home-like environment.
Threshold House will be supported not only by donors and partners but also by a network of volunteers and advocates who believe that how we die matters—and that we can do better.
We are currently fundraising and seeking volunteers. Please contact us for more information.
