Every Gift Opens Our Doors

Threshold House is not yet open. Every gift given now — at every size — moves us closer to welcoming our first guest. Founding donors don’t just fund a building; they help build a different way of dying, one rooted in presence instead of isolation.

Threshold House is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 41-3498417). All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Give Online

Giving online is quick and secure. If you’d like your gift directed toward something specific — construction, a founding sponsorship, general operating support — you’ll be able to note that in the donation form.

Become a Founding Circle Member

Monthly gifts, given before we’ve even opened our doors, are what let us plan with confidence. Founding Circle members commit to an ongoing monthly gift and will be the first to hear about our progress — from renovation milestones to the day we welcome our first guest.

Give by Mail

Prefer to give by check? Download and print our donor form when we make it available, and mail it in with your gift. If you’re giving in memory or honor of someone, let us know and we’ll acknowledge your gift to the family.

Leave a Legacy Gift

Some of the most meaningful support Threshold House will ever receive won’t arrive until years from now — through a bequest, a beneficiary designation, or another form of planned giving. A legacy gift ensures that the kind of care your loved one may one day rely on will still be there for the next person who needs it.

Sponsor a Founding Room

Threshold House will welcome up to three guests at a time — meaning every room matters enormously. Founding Room Sponsors will help bring one of these rooms to life before we ever open our doors, and will be permanently recognized as the sponsor of that room once Threshold House is open.

Be Part of How We Care

Threshold House will be built and sustained by more than staff. From the people who sit with our guests through the night, to the people helping us open our doors in the first place, volunteers are at the center of everything we do.

Become a Threshold Companion

Threshold Companions will be the trained volunteers and caregivers who provide round-the-clock, nonmedical presence to our guests — sitting with them, listening, easing fear, and holding space for their families. This is the heart of what Threshold House will offer once we’re open.

What the role will involve:

Sitting with guests, one-on-one or alongside loved ones, offering quiet companionship rather than medical care
Being a calm, steady presence overnight or during the day, depending on the shift
Supporting family members who are present, so they don’t carry the weight alone
Noticing and communicating changes to our care team

What we’ll be looking for:

Comfort being present with death, dying, and grief
Reliability and follow-through with scheduled shifts
Warmth, patience, and the ability to sit in silence when that’s what’s needed
Willingness to complete our screening process and required training and before serving

Support the Home Routinely

Not every volunteer role will involve sitting at the bedside. Once open, Threshold House will also rely on volunteers who help keep the home itself running warmly and well:

Cooking — preparing meals for guests, families, and our care team
Cleaning — keeping our home comfortable, peaceful, and welcoming
Gardening — tending the grounds so our guests and families have a beautiful place to sit outside
Maintenance and repairs — general upkeep and small fixes around the house

Help Us Open Our Doors — Volunteer Now

You don’t have to wait until we’re open to get involved. Right now, we especially need help with:

Fundraising and events — helping plan and run gatherings that raise awareness and support
Outreach — connecting us with hospice agencies, faith communities, and neighbors across Philadelphia
Donated skills — bookkeeping, legal services, carpentry, general maintenance, design, or other professional skills that can help us get the house ready
Administrative support — helping our small founding team keep everything moving

Volunteer Training

Once Threshold House is preparing to open, Threshold Companions will complete required training before serving guests, covering topics such as presence at the bedside, communication with loved ones, grief support, and working alongside hospice care teams. Details on training format and time commitment will be shared as we get closer to opening.
