Threshold House will offer a home-like place for people in the final days of life who cannot remain in their own homes. Once open, guests will receive 24/7 compassionate presence and non-medical support from our Threshold Companions, while their hospice provider continues to deliver medical care. We will hold the space; hospice will hold the medicine.
Based in Philadelphia, Threshold House will welcome up to three guests at a time — small enough that no one is a number, and every guest is known.

who will be eligible
To be welcomed at Threshold House, a guest will need to:
- Be enrolled with a hospice organization certified by Medicare, Medicaid, or a private insurance provider
- Have received a terminal diagnosis
- Have chosen to stop curative treatment
- Have a signed Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order
- Have an Advance Health Care Directive or Power of Attorney in place

the cost of care
No one will be turned away from Threshold House because they cannot afford it.
Threshold House will operate on a sliding-scale model: guests who are able to contribute toward the cost of their stay will do so, and guests who cannot will be cared for at no cost. Every guest will be held with the same presence, comfort, and dignity, regardless of ability to pay.
Those who wish to give back may also choose to leave a bequest from an estate after their loved one's passing — a way of ensuring that the care their loved one received can be offered to the next person who needs it.
